The pygmy mouse lemur, also known as the Madame Berthe's mouse lemur, is the smallest primate in the world. It is endemic to Madagascar and can be found in the Kirindy Mitea National Park, Menabe region.
These tiny creatures have an average weight of about 30 grams and measure around 10 centimeters in length. They have large eyes, long tails, and grey-brown fur.
Pygmy mouse lemurs are nocturnal and spend their days sleeping in tree holes, branches, or curled up in a ball. They are omnivores and feed on insects, fruits, and flowers.
Due to habitat loss and degradation, pygmy mouse lemurs are listed as critically endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their remaining habitat and ensure their population survival.
